Does the Beauty Industry speak a Universal Language?

It is said that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. That said, how do you view beauty and the beauty industry? No matter the language spoken or the culture you’re part of, beauty and the trends they foster resonates with anyone who is interested.

Whether it be makeup or skincare, hair care or nail care, as long as you’re a consumer of products and services within the industry, you’re also interested in the content these brands produce on a daily basis.

With this in mind, translating beauty blogs, localizing your websites and social media is always a great way to keep your global audience interested in keeping up with what you’re doing. At Day Translations we’re here to help you get the job done with our 24/7 translation and localization services.

By now you may be looking for the answer to the question we posed in the title of this blog post, right? Well, let’s get into it.

Let’s go back in history

From as far back as we can remember, we’ve always found importance in beautifying ourselves. From adorning the body to finding more innovative ways to beautify the hair, skin, and nails after a while, people have always sought to make themselves stand out by enhancing their beauty.

So now we’re sure of one thing, regardless of the language spoken, the geographical location or cultural practices, people want to make themselves more noticeable and beautiful. This was the beginning of the beauty industry.

There’s no time like the present

Today, the Beauty Industry is set to generate approximately 511 billion dollars in revenue. With that in mind, the industry has evolved over time and this could only have happened because there is a universal coming together of interests in beauty and beauty care. That is a universal language that everyone understands.

The evolution of this universal language

Our fast-paced digital world creates a community that speaks its own language that communicates and consumes content in a different way from what we would have seen 10 years ago.

These days, as long as your beauty brand produces great content, your consumers will continue to tell the story for you by marketing your brand without even trying. The posting of pictures, the publishing of vlogs and other informational videos, tagging, and hashtagging; all these gestures get the job done because people simply want to be involved.

With that in mind, there’s no doubt that (especially) women are spending more to beautify themselves. In addition to this, trends of self-expression and self-acceptance are also on the rise. No longer is ‘heavy make-up’ needed and this began to trend because of social media and the continuous lowering of the barriers (i.e. pricing for e.g.) for accessing beauty products and services.

Let’s look at this reality

Social media giant Facebook has around 1.9 billion users on daily basis spread across the various platforms they own. Whatsapp for example has 1.2 billion users, Instagram has around 700 million users and the Facebook messenger has about 1.2 billion users.

With this in mind, conversations take place by the second, information is sent with the click of a button; pictures, memes, and now reels have led us to be actively involved in an industry where everyone is now welcome and everyone is beautiful.

We can safely say that technology has changed the game, creating the power that we have today to define beauty on our own terms and to constantly speak the universal language that is beauty. That said, beauty is personal. But it’s also universal.

In closing

Having a universal language doesn’t mean that words have to be spoken for there to be a mutual understanding. This is evident when it comes to the universal language that exists within the beauty industry.

We can look back in history or observe what’s currently taking place, either way, one thing’s for sure, everyone understands beauty and the purpose of the beauty industry.

Customer reviews or influencer videos play a major role in keeping the universal language of beauty alive. It is now a customary consumer practice to seek out what other people have to say about beauty products and services before they buy into any of them.

We hope our comprehensive look at beauty as a universal language provided you with another way to picture the beauty industry and how this universal language connects us all on another level.
